My background in DAQ is more hands on than theoretical. I worked in the manufacturing environment (the food industry) for over seven years as an electrical engineer. During that time I was exposed to myriad industrial DAQ systems; my prime responsibility being installing, programming, troubleshooting and repairing such systems. Therefore, on this forum, one of my hopes is to explore more hands-on topics.

In aseptic food production, processing systems are highly sensitive to input parameters. During a production run, a momentary glitch -- whether caused by "unconditionable" noise or a genuine sensor failure -- lead to loss-of-sterility conditions. This effectively halts production and cost tens of millions of dollars in downtime every year.

Trouble-free data acquisition has the potential for saving companies, organizations and government institutions enormous amounts of time and money.
